Does The Devil Like To Thump You?

It’s a strange way to open a blog post, but truth is we all experience times when life is plain crazy.

In fact, it’s not that life is crazy, it’s that things are unusual.

When you least expect it, life goes south.

You get hit by debt, sickness, confrontations,  foreclosure, calamities(God forbid!) unexplainable circumstances….

It causes you to question God and ask, “Why are you doing this to me?”

And if you know God by now, you know it’s not Him.

I’ve had my fair share of challenges that make no sense, and this is the primary reason I want to share this post with you.

I Lift Up My Eyes To The Hills, From Whence Does My Help Come from?

Every once in a while, the devil will remind you of your past. He uses that as a weapon to keep you in condemnation and defeat.

Now, you can confront him head-on and WIN.

Meet the ultimate weapon, the fireblazing, trigger-happy gun to stop him dead in his tracks every time he tries his sinister tactics on you.

In fact, load it in your Ipod and listen to it all day long because it’s…

Flawless – MercyMe

How do we begin describing the immense impact MercyMe have had in Christian music?

This song resonates with every Christian in the world, regardless of background, tribe, color, age or personality.

MercyMe are up to their genius best with a song that hooks from you verse 1 and keeps you emotionally glued to the very end.

It’s also one of those rare songs where the video enhances the mood and lyrics of the song.

So if you are in a slump of some sort, or feeling like life doesn’t mean anything anymore, listen to ‘Flawless by MercyMe’.

The lyrics will put a smile on your face soon enough. Part of the chorus goes…

No matter the bumps
No matter the bruises
No matter the scars
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless

I term it the ultimate song to wipe away your past.

MercyMe have a long history of releasing beautifully anointed songs that speak universally to all of us. This one is no exception because it deals with one area that affects almost all of us – guilt.

About MercyMe

MercyMe is an American contemporary Christian music band founded in Greenville, Texas.

The band consists of vocalist Bart Millard, keyboardist James Bryson, percussionist Robby Shaffer, bassist Nathan Cochran and guitarists Michael Scheuchzer and Barry Graul.

When I was working in a local Christian radio station many years ago, I remember scheduling ‘I Can Only Imagine’ on the station’s weekly playlist, listening to it for the first time and asking myself, “Where on earth did this song come from?”

It was that good.

So good, it’s been turned into a movie in 2018.

Our radio hosts reported it (I Can Only Imagine) as one of the most requested songs of that year.

12 months later, every radio station (gospel and secular) had it on high rotation.

TV Stations took up the cue and aired it during their interlude segments.

Bart Millard wrote “I Can Only Imagine” in an old, abandoned daycare center that also served as the band’s makeshift studio.

In 2010, it became the first song in Christian music to exceed 1 million downloads according to Christianity Today.

Thank God, Bart decided to pursue music instead of becoming a football player!

Then came “Bless Me Indeed” based on the prayer of Jabez.

It’s a sound cry of a hungry heart, a plea to expand and taste every blessing in God’s treasure chest.

The Story Behind Flawless

Flawless is included in the 2014 album, ‘Welcome to the New’

About the album, Bart says:

We were at church, and some kids were making fun of my son. And he started singing ‘Greater’ – ‘You are Holy, righteous and redeemed.’ I just started bawling. That’s the reason we made the record.”

The message is about the condemning power of guilt that traps us and prevents us from believing we can ever be accepted in the community and most importantly by God.

Guilt Tears Us All Up

Guilt has the power of reaching down to your very soul and ripping all the joy, victory and purpose from your life with a blood-wrenching tear.

And all the devil needs to do is slip in one casual thought when you least expect it, “Remember when you…?”

Flawless – MercyMe

Now, you got your secret weapon ready to aim and fire at the devil the next time he tries to remind you of your past.

There’s a great devotional to go along with the song!

Read about the freedom to be flawless and see if you agree.

If you know someone struggling with their past, this could be the best gift you could give them.
